Information on Trustees

Welcome to St. Thomas Garnet’s Kindergarten.
The Unit was founded in 1993 and is registered for 28 children, aged 3 yrs  to school age.  We aim to ensure that your child is cared for in a safe, friendly, warm, and homely environment, where they can learn through play and play to learn.  We also want parents to have confidence in their child’s well-being and their role as active partners within the Kindergarten.

St. Thomas Garnet’s Kindergarten recognises the importance of bringing up our future generation in an environment where children can develop as an individual, at their own pace.  They can thrive on fun, love, trust, and encouragement to extend their range of values.
Our continued aim in Kindergarten is to work as an extension of the parents own nurturing, encouraging ‘parents as partners’ to maintain our friendly, reliable and professional childcare, through our highly enthusiastic and motivated team, ensuring consistency.

THE KINDERGARTEN IS  A NATURALLY NUT FREE ZONE

Pre School

In pre-school we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which incorporates the six areas of learning.

These areas are
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Physical development
Problem Solving
Reasoning and Numeracy Communication
Language and Literacy
Personal, Social and Emotional development
Creative development

The pre-school is registered for 24 children.  Each child is assigned a key person on joining pre-school, who works with you and your child throughout their time with us. Our daily routine promotes the curriculum and provides opportunities through free-play, structured play, circle time, outdoor play, role-play and dressing up.  As each child progresses they are encouraged to  develop their listening, reading, writing and numeracy skills.

The children follow the Jolly Phonics scheme to promote sound work and are provided with reading folders in the Spring term before they enter  mainstream school.

Pre-school children wear a uniform (detail available from Barretts in Southbourne)
We are fortunate to be situated in the main school and use many of its facilities.
We use the school hall, music room, playground and field for P.E., Drama, Nativity productions and Sports day.
