ST THOMAS GARNET'S INDEPENDENT SCHOOL

1979 - 2004

On Friday May 13th, The Bishop of Portsmouth, Rev Crispian Hollis, visited our school, as part of the 25th Anniversary celebrations.  He visited the Kindergarten and the school classrooms, met the children and staff and afterwards joined The Trustees in welcoming people from the past 25 years. Mike Cooper (the first Headteacher) and some of the original staff were present, together with Sister Rosa, the last Junior School Head from the convent days. Among those present were past and present PTA members, Catholic Heads, former Trustees and Governors, past pupils, Priests, Bournemouth LEA and Early Years and past staff members.

Paul Gillings in his welcome, reminded us of the tradition we inherited since the first school opened in 1921, and that the success and reputation of the school is built on the hard work and dedication of the past and present staff. But above all we are here to provide the best for the children in our care, and we should look forward to the next 25 years with confidence, enthusiasm and anticipation.

He asked Bishop Crispian to unveil a commemorative plaque.

Bishop Crispian thanked us for giving him the opportunity to celebrate the anniversary with us. Reminded us of the tradition of Catholic Education in the diocese and with a firm flourish unveiled the plaque.

The event finished with Paul Gillings and Mike Cooper cutting the cake.

The plaque will be placed in the main entrance to the school.
